Voice Over – VIVID narrative

This VIVID Festival I got to work with the talented mob at Ample Projects again. As with last year, I was recording the narrative content for their projection/ sculpture/ light installation at Taronga Zoo as part of VIVID 2017.

The voice artist was the talented, indigenous Nardi Simpson. The signal chain in the recording was a Neumann TLM 107 condenser and a SM58, both going through Shadow Hills pre amps and through Distressors for a touch of compression.

I find the condenser / dynamic mic combination so handy for blending detail (condenser) with warmth and less room sound (dynamic mic). Speaking of room sound, drapes were hung to minimise room reflections and slight gating was applied in the post production to reduce noise and breathing.
