Jonathan Baker aka Anatole Piano Session

This week I was down at Music Feeds (old Megaphon Studios) with the talented multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Baker. The task at hand; recording some piano passes for his forthcoming LP under the Anatole alias.

Which label has signed his new LP, I’m not allowed to tell as yet, but it’s one of the fine Neo Classical labels from the northern hemisphere. Anatole will be dropping the first single shortly and sharing the news himself.

From a nerdy Audiophile perspective, I used a space pair of MKH 8040 Sennheisser pencil condensers over the hammers for that upfront jazz vibe, a MS pair of Sony C48s in the nook of the piano for that massive wide MS piano treatment, and finally a far room omni DPA 4090 mic for a bit of natural reverb / ambience.

Anatole says, “recordings sound awesome.” Yay for great players, pianos, microphones, preamps and the sound at large.
